I was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi and raised on a small rural farming community. At the age of 18 I enrolled in Millsaps College in Jackson and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1971. I worked in industry for the next 35 years and during this time I earned a Master of Science in Engineering Sciences/Environmental from the University of Mississippi. I finally hit my bottom and addressed my never ending battles with various addictions in 2001. I went to treatment at a long term residential chemical dependency center and stayed in treatment for approximately seven months. After leaving treatment I embarked on a new life and began a path to earn a graduate degree in Preventive Medicine/Epidemiology. I finished my Master of Science in Epidemiology in May of 2003 and earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Preventive Medicine/Epidemiology in May of 2007. My dissertation focused on THE RELATIONSHIP OF SPIRITUALITY TO PROGRAM COMPLETION AMONG ALCOHOL/DRUG DEPENDENT PATIENTS ENROLLED IN A RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT CENTER FOR CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY. I feel at home at A Bridge to Recovery and find it a place for someone to examine, explore, and grow emotionally, spiritually, and physically and work on the fundamental core issues which keep us trapped in our addiction.
